Innovating Safety & Productivity for the Corrosion Control Industry
The aim of every business ultimately is to make a profit. One way you can increase profit in your business is to do more blasting without increasing the hours.
Recent studies by Blast One International have demonstrated very simply and effectively that pressure drop over the length of a 15 m blast hose increases dramatically if you use a smaller hose.
The results were as follows:
And yes, you did read that last one right! By changing down to the 1" hose you can drop pressure by a massive 16 psi!
The next part of the equation is that for every 1 psi in pressure drop, your efficiency reduces by 1.5%. An age old statistic that has been proved time and time again. Therefore, a 16 psi pressure drop will reduce your overall efficiency output by 24%. Add this to a worn blast nozzle and you could be operating at roughly 60% efficiency, which will have dramatic effects on your overall productivity.
With the above infromation in mind, if you're currently using a 1" blast hose for your lines, we would recommend increasing this to a 1.25" blast hose which would give you an efficiency increase of 18%. For optimum efficiency levels, we'd further recommend increasing your lines to a 1.5" blast hose for a 24% increase in efficiency levels.
Lastly, remember to check your blast nozzle. If it is misshapen or if there is more than 1 mm of movement beyond its original measurement, it is time to replace your nozzle for a new one - however ok it may look on the outside.
